Slow Down, My Son

Caution's 8 year old boy: "Mommy, I am almost grown now, so I don't want you to see me naked any more."

Caution: "Sounds great, but it does mean that you will have to stop walking around the house and forgetting to get dressed."

8 year old: "Okay. I've thought about it. I'm good with that. Do I need to start using deodorant now that I'm getting older?"

Caution *sniffing* "No, you're still smelling sweet and should be that way for a while longer."

8 year old: "How about shaving?"

Caution: "I think you'll get through third grade without needing to do that."

8 year old: "I'm glad we had this conversation. Being grown up like I am is kind of a challenge, isn't it? BUT when I'm a dad, I'm going to tell my baby about the naked thing before he's born so he will be ready!"

OMGosh! I LOVE it! A child's perspective is so precious! Most definately God's greatest GIFT to us!

That is so cute! Good thing you posted about it so you have proof when you are telling his kids what he said when he was 8!

The other third graders might make fun of him if you don't let him wear deodorant and shave :)

I predict that when he is about 17 you won't be able to get him to do either one!!! hahahaha!

Yep, the hardest thing about growing up is breaking the news to your parents.

Looks like a shopping trip for manly stuff is in order.

How freakin cute!! But make sure he isn't rubbing against any doorknobs or his "doodle" might be one of the 15 you encounter on a daily basis!!

What a little man! As long as he keeps talking, you are going to be just fine!

That is so sweet! Don't you wish you could just "freeze" him at this age?

Ah,yes.....memories......deoderant.

The 5th grade room at our school used to just reek; kids at various stages of development in there, of course. The poor teacher used to hand out deoderant samples to all her students to try and give a hint to the few who were not using it yet, but needed to.

Sounds like you are off and running ahead of things like a good mom should.....

How cute, he now considers himself more manly. Boy they are growing up faster these days.

I have girl that has already dealt with the deodorant, shaving and make-up issues. Two more to go!!

Thanks for stopping by my place. I just posted an up-date tonite. I had family in from out of town and was trying to help take care of Missy, get her back to her regular doctor, etc. so I missed a few days posting. I didn't feel very brave catching that snake, but the doctor needed to know, if possible, whether or not it was a venomous snake and I couldn't figure out any other way to find out. Believe you me, I was pretty skittish.

I think some of the best and most profound things I've ever heard in my life came from the pure, sweet, innocent and naive lips of a child,
but they all want to grow up so fast anymore. Encourage him to be and dwell in the very special place called childhood.

Thanks again for stopping by...

So sweet... My son, too, was kind of excited about growing up. I have fond memories of him running and jumping in the house, screaming karate-like screams and trying out the physical capabilities of his growing body/muscles. How nice that our boys could embrace growing up and talk to us about it. It sounds like you have a good relationship.
