My Facebook Mystery Friend

You know I've had a little something going on with Facebook the last couple of months.  It's been fun to "find" people I didn't know I had lost and then find some I had definitely lost.  Without exception, they all look wonderful (well, I know I post a nice, slimming picture of myself, too!)  I've enjoyed seeing that some people have moved a grand total of 2 inches from where I left them and others have moved light years away.
Some have turned out so differently from what I predicted, and that should be a lesson to you not to trust my powers of prediction.  Psychic I am not (but I did read a good novel about one, The Grift.)

Yesterday, however, dampened my Facebook enthusism.  I got a friend request.  That means that someone I "know" found my name and wants to link up with me, in the most wireless way possible.  She sent me this message:
Caution!!!  Is this really Caution Flag??? I can't believe I found you. This is wonderful.  Please get me all caught up on your life.  How's your mom?
I was happy to read that someone wanted to find me.  And since my mom was our guidance counselor, I always think it's sweet when someone wants to be remembered to her.

I looked at the letter sender's picture. No memory of her.  I looked at her credentials.  Yup, same school/same time frame.  I looked at her list of friends.  Yes, we knew the same people.  But her?  There is not even the tiniest of synapses lighting up at her name.  Who is she?  I suppose it would be rude to ask her to give me a hint?

Instead, I emailed a mutual acquaintance asking for a clue, but just this minute I began to wonder if I sent the email to the mutual acquaintance or accidentally sent it to the mystery friend.

Facebook will certainly be the undoing of me.

It's even WORSE when a person standing right in front of you can remember what color you painted your toenails in the 7th grade, and you're standing there trying to remember what you had for breakfast this morning. No CLUE as to who they are...SO WRONG!

Haha..I am with you on this. I had a couple friend request, even a suggestion from a mutual friend and I have NO clue. I am glad to hear it's not only me.
I am glad to see you're back. I start back to school Monday. This will be my last stressful semester, I hope.
Love the new look.

I am dying in laughter...blame it on early senility or something equally as random...having kids make you lose brain cells.

I love the way you can make me smile!

I had to retire early on Facebook, did it for a time then hung up my shoes there. I decided that it was either that or blogging, and with my other two websites (personal and professional) Facebook was fun but it would have consumed my life all together. I do wish though I could look up old friends. So often I think of someone and wonder where they are. But then, I would probably send a friend request and BE the mystery person TO someone! haha

You are much more with-it than me. I have never joined FaceBook or even looked at it. Blogging is as much as I can handle, and not too well, anyway.

Did you go by "Caution Flag" way back in high school!?

A good reason for me to stay away from Facebook. I do not remember people. When I was an a active Pastor I would be in a store and somebody would say " Pastor Linna , remember me.?" Then I started my mind through the list, high school, college, first parish, or someplace else. I seldom got one right.

I have a love/hate relationship with facebook. Yesterday I found the brother of a good summer friend of mine and that made me very happy. Then one day a girl asked to be my friend, but asked if I had put the wrong year down for my graduation. Hmm, I am pretty sure I know when I graduated. I had no idea who she was.
I hope you solve your little mystery!

I haven't been out of high school as long as you have (I'm guessing since you have the 4 kids), but I had this same thing happen to me about a month ago. I messaged her back saying that I felt like a jerk, but that her name/picture wasn't ringing any bells, and how exactly did we know each other. She emailed me back, telling me who she was friends with (someone who I remember very clearly), and that she was a neighbor of mine and we rode the bus together. Still no clue. I asked her more specificially where she lived, but that didn't jog my memory either. Finally, I just added her, and later I looked her up in an old yearbook...THAT'S when it clicked. I don't have a single memory with her in it, but at least I recognized her face and remembered that she had an older sister!
