Curiosity WILL Get the Better of Me

Two week-ends, two moving vans, one furniture store delivery, one appliance store delivery and just like that, the foreclosed house across the street has new residents.  And that means that I have new neighbors.

Knowing me like you do, friendly - gracious - kind, you probably believe I've been over there with house-warming gifts and full meals.  I'm sure you think I must be the greatest neighbor ever to lend a hand like that...

...wait.  Who are we talking about here? Me??  I'm all confused!

Of course I've haven't been over.  Haven't delivered one cookie or one good wish. WHY??

It's all the old neighbors' fault.  You see, for the last decade that house has been occupied by an entire Eastern European nation.  Countless generations have moved through that house at all hours of the day and night.  Dozens and dozens and dozens of them have arrived in their late model European import cars and greeted each other very loudly.  They've said good-bye at 2 A.M. each MONDAY morning and hugged and yelled and beeped horns and yelled some more.  They've refused to acknowledge that I've smiled and said hello as we cross paths on the sidewalk.  On multiple occasions, they've begun  building projects complete with whining saws beginning at midnight - outside on the front lawn.  They've driven far over the speed limit through our sub.  Cut the corners way too closely and quickly as I attempted to get through the intersections. Repeatedly parked in front of other houses so that those residents had no where for their own guests to park. AND failed to fix their brakes causing them to frequently use their other cars as stopping blocks.

I'll admit, it doesn't sound so bad now, but it is going to take me a minute or two to see just who these new neighbors are.  The police have been over there once already, so we'll see.  In the meantime, I'll be figuring out which cookies to make as a house-warming gift - because that's just who I am. Kind of.

Oh, I´m so like that too! And the police were over there already?!! That´s not a good sign. But I hope they turn out to be good people. Or maybe you could send over the kids to check them out first....:)

I've been here fifteen years and Istill haven't acknowlegded some of my newer neighbors. I'm slow to warm up to some people!

Wow, you have had some real winners over there, haven't you? Poor thing. That can make life miserable. Hopefully these folks will be good...maybe the police were there welcoming them to the neighborhood??? Because they are NICE?????

Not good at all. I thought my neighbors were bad! Hopefully the new ones will be MUCH better.

Ah, I suddenly remembered why I like not having neighbors! I hope that your new neighbors are a step up from what you are used to (the police have already been there once? Yikes!) Thanks for stopping by my blog!

... And I thought that our grumpy neighbours were bad! Always shouting at the kids and making them cry... At least yours ignore you.. want to swap?

So far I've been lucky here. My only complaint lately is the VERY LOUD motorcycles everyone seems to be buying. Are they really revving them up to aggravate me? Right.

I'm seriously thinking of stealing this layout but that's against the unspoken bloggie rules!
I do love it...

I'd be baking cookies just to get a little sneak peak :)

.... and because that is just the kind of person I am.

Hehe!

Maybe the law was just some kin stopping by to see if they got settled in... or not. I think you are being wise to have adopted the 'wait-and-see' attitude.

Cupcakes with nail files in them sounds like an appropriate "welcome to the neighborhood" gift to me!

I will be praying loudly for you!

They have been there for a couple of weekends and the police have already been there? Hmmm...that doesn't sound so good.

When we moved into our house the neighbor showed up with a bag of raw halibut he had just caught, all squishy and wet. It's the thought that counts. Bring them people some of whatever you do good!

I can't imagine living in town and so close to other houses. It would blow my mind.

You've done the right thing! I used to make sure I welcomed people with brownies and introduced our family as the vans were unloading. Until the day someone told me about the "bad" neighbor. "She's always the first to greet you as you're moving in" and I thought about it-- they were right!! My nosiest neighbors were always the first on my doorstep. I try to let a year go by now before I introduce myself ;-)

Oh, boy - looks like you'll have some bloggin' fodder for a while :) Actually, it sounds like you HAD some with the previous neighbors!!! I'll have to snoop through your old posts some day if you took advantage of that ready-made material.

I'm kinda glad our neighbors are cows.

I'm getting a new neighbor soon also. Preacher across the street has been moved, so that means a new preacher's wife. I have been told she is 28, a wee one. I have been asked to befriend her. In my mind I actually thought, I can do that, but there is no way she's getting a basket of cookies, I simply don't bake! Then I came and read this and thought, we are such kindred spirits.

It usually takes me a while to go introduce myself to my neighbors, I like to feel them out first.
