A Taxing Decision

Let's just say you need a haircut. Let's just say your hair resembles something a first grade boy may have worn in 1985. And let's just say a stylist/new friend said she could help you out on a Sunday at your house.

Now let's get over your jubilation at her graciousness and your jubilation at the fact that someone whose hair always looks great is willing to make you look great, too.

Borrowed from: http://thecoloringspot.com/images/people/hair-stylist.jpg

As our little scenario moves forward here, let's think about how you remember a few minutes before your stylist/new friend arrives that she also is a professional house cleaner - and she's really good at that cleaning stuff. Then you think about how you're maybe not in the professional realm of cleaners and about how you're maybe not even an amateur cleaner.

Just as your stylist/new friend rings the doorbell, you look in panic at the condition of your house.

What do you do?

a) greet her outside and accidentally lock the door behind you?

b) accept that you will always look a bit like that first grade boy, circa 1985, and refuse to open the door even as your stylist/new friend rings and rings and rings?

c) hand her a blindfold and sincerely pray that she is great at cutting by touch instead of sight?

If the weather was nice, you could sit in the backyard for your haircut. That's where I trim my husband's hair. When you're done, you're done.....no sweeping up required.

I'm thinking your humor and personality will keep her mind off your house! Let her in!

Always keep the vacuum in the middle of the living room floor, that way when people come by, you just nonchalantly mention that you were just getting ready to begin your major housework for the week.

Let her in and blame the random vandals who stole nothing but messed up your home. :p

From my experience, cleaning people don't usually have the cleanest houses!!!
I would let her in, but you did not give me that choice...so outside for a haircut.

I enjoyed your sense of humour throughout your whole blog!! I think leaving the cvacuum cleaner and some cleaning stuff in the middle of the room works well. I often use that little trick too. ROFL!!

I, err, having just had a bad haircut, would have been more concerned that the stylist was also a professional house cleaner and new friend. You don't want anyone stretched too thin . . .

Let her in to care for the hair. We have to look good while we're cleaning! Or not.

Who cares about the cleaning? How wonderful to get a great haircut in your own home... And who knows? Maybe she'll offer you some cleaning help too...

A REAL friend doesn't care what your house looks like ;) Let her on in, and get your "new do"!!!

if she is your friend, she won't care and she might even clean your house for you :) Two for one... that sounds great to me... so how did your hair turn out?

Yes - throw in a good tip for some house cleaning!!! Haha!

I'd ask her to cut my hair & then to give me an estimate on cleaning my house. I find some are overly focused on how a new home looks when they enter, those people will always find some fault. Other people, like me, are more concerned with the person's behavior/personality, not the condition of the home, those people won't care.~Mary

Yeah - that would be "B", and if she was persistent we'd go to "A"!

Thanks for stopping by and commenting on my blog!

If she drives to your house to cut your hair, you are exempt from her opinion on housekeeping.

It's written in the unofficial rule book, page 12 article 19.

Actually, the truth is nobody has a clean, perfectly tidy house. Say this to yourself over and over and over again until you believe it's true.

Works for me. Half the time.

Do what I do--tell her you just returned from a month long trip caring for your sick mother and your husband was home by himself :-)
