Do I Ever Write Anything but Fragmented Thoughts Now?

  • BIG road trip begins later this week, so we are trying to figure out our stops and other items in the itinerary. So far, I've planned the first three days. Beyond that, things gets a little murky. I am concerned because my kids and I took a 7 hour trip on Sunday and by the seventh hour, I was ready for my kids to walk home. It makes no sense for me to be planning to drive thousands of miles for this trip.
  • In sad news, my Topsy Turvy squash plant did not survive the strong winds which came through here over the week-end. All that is left is a little stem. However, my tomato and zucchini continue to taunt me into believing they may actually produce something edible.
  • We have no school-aged children in our immediate neighborhood, and many friends have told me how lucky I am to have no children in doorbell-ringing distance. This week, though, is the next-door neighbors' grandchildren's annual visit. It is fun for a week to have kids nearby.
  • My goal tonight is to sort and put away the 17 loads of clean laundry now living on my bedroom floor. I really thought that if I moved it from the hallway to my room, I would put it away sooner. Not.
  • A while ago, I found an old fabric square that my grandfather had written on and signed about 40 years ago- just a couple of years from the end of his Earthly life. He wrote, "God's children never meet for the last time." What a beautiful thought! I was able have that fabric square framed for my mom's birthday, and though it's a bit faded and stained, the project turned out nicely.
  • We plan to spend the 4th of July in Dodge City, Kansas. My sister used to live in Kansas and remembers Dodge City as having a peculiar and off-putting odor. Let's hope that the Boot Hill Museum is enough to compensate for the odor.
  • Okay, time to get one child to scouts, one to karate, one to youth group, and one to help me with the laundry. Travel updates coming soon!

Good luck with your trip! I know how hard those are....we make a 13hr trip to TN every summer!!

Have fun with your trip. I love road trips - of course, I only have one child and that could be why!

My son is in scouts and karate. Great activities for kids. Karate has given him a sense of confidence in the way he presents himself. He is 14 and a 2nd degree black belt and has had 2 kids attempt something physical on him. In both cases, he did a technique that showed them he was in control of the situation and it ended right then and there - less than 20 seconds. Gotta love it.

I am glad the project turned out well!! That is too cool. Photo please?

I will be praying for you constantly during your trip. Two hours is more than enough for me.

You're a brave woman to embark on a road trip with kids!

As for not having any friends within doorbell-ringing distance.. poor you! It's lovely for the kids to have loads of friends dropping by or to be able to go over to them... Our street has about 10 kids of similar ages so the house is always full! I love it.

You'll survive. All of it. Even with kids. In the back of a car. For thousands. Of miles. Just pray.

Love the fragments! You weave an excellent blogpost with that style.

How wonderful you had that framed handwritten message from your grandfather and what a special gift for your mom!

I'm wondering about the odd odor in Dodge City and will be waiting in suspense to find out. Sulfur? Cattle manure? What could it be? Maybe Marshal Dillon knows the answer....he's still alive and has a website. We watched "Gunsmoke" all the time when I was a kid.

Do ya think Dodge City got it's name from back in the olden days when you had to dodge the bullets? Just wondering.

My mom and dad would take us on trips to California or Florida or Tennessee for reunions. There was always 4 or 5 out of the 6 of us and a lot of times we'd have an aunt with us, too.

I remember getting some good naps on my knees on the floor and laying the top half of me on the back seat. Of course I was considerable shorter back then.

You'll survive. And you might even find a good time in it.

What a treasure you found!!! A perfect gift for your mom :)

Enjoy the trip! Years ago, we went from NC to CA on our way to CO (don't ask), and it was a vacation to remember for sure. I haven't posted about it because I didn't want to scare Ethel :) Well, I don't really want to scare you, either....

Hope you'll have access to a computer and internet so we can keep up!

I think fragmented posts are the best! Perhaps summer is the reason - aren't we all a little fragmented this time of year?

Your trip sounds wonderful. Take lots of pictures and keep us posted.
