Help!

Calling Mr. and Mrs. Fix-it!!!

Does anyone know how to unstick a stuck tuning slide on a trombone? It was such a good deal on Ebay, too!!! I've read that we can let a penetrating oil soak on it overnight, but the risk is ruining the slide in the process of trying to pull it out. Help, please?

Calling all cooks!!!

My mom and I need a good recipe for a big pot of spaghetti sauce. She is a great cook and I imitate her sauce pretty well, but she needs to bring sauce to a church dinner on Sunday and we haven't cooked such a large batch in years. Want to share a recipe with us ??

Thanks :))))

Yikes to the trombone trouble; I'm sure you wanted/needed this done BEFORE school, but the band teacher should know. Or someone at a music store. Is that a job for resin?

For the spaghetti sauce, can't help there, either. I started using salsa a couple of years ago when I'd promised spaghetti before realizing we were out of normal-people sauce or anything Italian-y that would pass. We did have salsa, though, and that was the end of normal-people spaghetti sauce. We usually use Walmart's Black Bean and Corn salsa because it's relatively cheap and low in sodium. Since I'm a lazy cook at best, this is perfect, and it's delicious! I've thrown in chopped onion, celery, carrots, squash, zucchini, garlic, and whatever else I need to get rid of. I mean, WANT to use. The pasta is usually a mix of spinach and whole wheat, so it looks real purty on the plates :)

So, in a nutshell, I'm not much help with either of your questions.

You're welcome!

Lucy

No help here on the trombone!

I'll be looking forward to those sauce recipes. Mine never turns out the same twice:)

I got nuthin' on the trombone.
And as for the sauce? I might just go buy a whole bunch of Newman's Marinara and add a little of my own stuff;) I'm just clever like that....

I found this by goggling...

get penetrating oil from dad's toolbox or the local hardware store. You'll have to clean well when you're done.

Your local repair shop has a tool for this purpose and if that tool works easily they may not even charge you to get it out as it would only take a couple seconds.

Trying to get it out yourself could cause damage to soldered joints or braces and just isn't worth the risk. If the letting penetrating oil work overnight idea doesn't work - it's shop time.

If it's seriously stuck in there - as would be with corrosion - the repair tech will desolder the joints and remove them, then he will knock the tubes that are stuck out using a mandrel and a hammer. Then he will strip the contacting surfaces, polish them up, and resolder all of those joints back together. Not your typical quick home repair.

The band director might be able to help too.

No suggestions on the spaghetti sauce either. I usually take a purchased brand, add canned tomato sauce, fresh garlic and other spices and go from there.

Good luck!

First off, get some trombone slide oil and a cleaning cloth. This will be needed after we are unstuck.

Spray a little WD 40 on the end joint, or the tuning slide...wait about an hour or over night. Place the bell of the trombone on a carpeted area and gently stand on the bell, not putting a lot of pressure on it. Pull on the slide and it should come off...if this does not occur...take a hair dryer on heat to the area for a few minutes to expand the joint and try again.

If it still doesn't work, then take it to a musical instrument or band shop and they can usually do it for free.

Instruments need to be cleaned and well oiled daily. I spent as much time in instrument care, as I did in practicing and playing.

Veg. oil the trombone, it works for stubborn eggbeaters.

Spaghetti sauce? Open up 6 or 8 cans of Prego and add some sauted chopped onion and sauted ground beef. Arrive with slightly messy hair and a wooden spoon under your arm.

loved Decadent Housewife's comment about the spaghetti sauce

seems like you got some good advice on unsticking the trombone; I would have been useless there to help

my idea of spaghetti sauce is Ragu or Prego; not much help there either

but, all in all, I can wish for you to have a great day!

Two things you need in your workshop... WD40 if it's supposed to move and doesn't, duct tape if it moves and isn't supposed to...

As to the spaghetti sauce... Decadent Housewife has got it down perfect.

There is a calculator on the page so you can just plug in how many people this needs to feed and the recipe adjusts the amounts :-)

I can't help you on the trumpet. But as far as spaghetti sauce goes, and remember I'm a lousy cook, a can of cream of mushroom soup makes it delicious, and if you've got 1/4 cup of coca cola (real, not diet) and 1/4 cup of red wine to throw in there, they gives it a little extra umph.

What is a tuning slide? :0

I never get the same sauce twice. I do use a lot of garlic, fresh basil and oregano. Then I add diced tomatos, tom. sauce and tom. paste then I cook the heck out of it.
