How Much Easier It Would Be

My friend, my dear friend, lives about a mile away. If the houses were leveled, all traffic stopped, and all people silenced, she could (if I had the wind at my back) hear me yelling to her from my house.

I love her. Really, truly love her.

And we didn't call or visit one time this summer. Work schedules could be blamed, but neither of us worked this summer. We're out of excuses why. It just didn't happen.

She was buying potatoes last week and how do I know that, you ask?

I was buying potatoes, too.

We shrieked. We hugged. We cautioned each other about germs. We played produce aisle catch-up, and then, with multiple promises to call, we parted.

I miss her even though I can't help but think if she would just blog or Facebook, it would be so much easier than hollerin' across the mile that divides us.

My BFF and I live around 20 miles away I guess (I'm terrible with distance, direction, etc.) but we rarely visit or call. I don't know what we'd do without Facebook! It keeps us connected.

Awwwwwwwwwwww. I love that you are so close. Isn't it crazy how life gets in the way of our friendships sometimes! I hope you see her again soon! Next time you are getting potatoes for sure!

I am coming over from SITS this morning!

Sooooo agree with you...if it were not for FB, I'd never catch up daily with my BFFs.

The Internet is a wonderful and terrible thing, isn't it?

Life is a pain in the A#$ sometimes and just gets in the way!

But, what a testament to your friendship that you two were so happy to see each other (none of the fumbling embarrassment to deal with)! I'm sure life won't be allowed to put up such a roadblock again.

This is so funny!!! I have a friend like this...only we are only 8 houses from each other and seem to only wave as we pass each other on the roadway.
I hope you each have time for one another soon...if she read your blog, she would know how important she is to you.

I currently live two floors away from my BFF. Moving is going to suck because we won't be yelling distance anymore. :((

Living in a rural area, it's much more likely to run into friends/neighbors on errands... usually Walmart.

I even connected to a good neighbor on Facebook recently in a quest to keep up... because < .5 mile is apparently too far to do it in person and the rare phone calls always end up being longer than either of us can 'afford.' And we haven't even exchanged notes on FB yet.

Sad.

But happy you found your friend in the potatoes!

Life. Work, potatoes and kids.

I love this...and how sad is it that we spend all our time talking in here?

That is my one saving grace in grocery shopping, that I will run into one or more of my friends and can catch up! Some days my shopping will take me a few hours, because everyone I like is in there. Sadly, that is the extent of my social life!

Just another reason potatoes are good!

Oh, you brave Facebooker! I get all my news at the grocery store. Sometimes I'll pop in with nothing on my list, just for the chance to catch up with friends.

now before too much time goes by, call her up and plan something :)

I remember my old pastor saying how much technology we have these days to stay in touch and yet how lonely so many people are because they just interact online or through texting instead of picking up the phone and hearing someone's voice or meeting someone for coffee etc. I think he has a point.

I know, I know! It kills me that it's so hard to see the people we care about. In person. If over potatoes, that's just fine. But seeing friend fills me up like a red balloon.

it seems to me that the things that are supposed to keep us in touch and bring us together...rarely do..jj

its such a shame that technology is the only way to connect nowadays, rather than face to face get togethers?

Great post.

Molly and I are like that--we rarely see each other IRL, though we do talk at least once per week. I do wish she would at least join FB!
