Playing at Being Cerebral

My husband and I love Greenfield Village and The Henry Ford Museum. When it was announced that a Lego display was coming, we knew what we had to do. For Checkered and me, what we had to do was find a day where no one had any other time obligation. What our daughter knew she had to do was find something, anything to do that didn't include being dragged through the museum and village AGAIN. For our boys, it meant begging and hounding and planning until their parents actually agreed to go.

We walked in and found this glorious Lego display of downtown Detroit. It was detailed and had moving components. It was so wonderful that we couldn't wait to find the actual exhibit. When we did, we were disappointed. There were a few smaller but detailed castles, but overall, a mighty weak display.

Fortunately, we found a pretty tree.

My son's favorite "hippy" van.

And my favorite mode of transportation.

The boys agreed: the Lego exhibit at the Henry Ford wasn't worth the visit.

During the day, I learned that my vest was insufficient protection against the weather, and chivalrous Checkered gave me his jacket. That was a very sweet and sexy move. Too bad the pockets turned my fingers yellow - even if the photo didn't capture the color so well.

Sorry the Legos were a disappointment. My almost 5 year old is just starting his Lego obsession. I have a feeling I'm in for years of torture and stepping on them and vacuuming them. Good times!

Doesn't it suck when such an event bombs?

But it looks like you all managed to have a nice time anyway - minus the yellow fingers! What's up with that?

Don't you hate when you think something is going to be great and it is not. Then I feel like LOSER mom, like I should have known better!

I didn't think a Lego display could be disappointing, so I'm sorry to hear that.

But an outing with your favorite guys and yellow fingers on top of THAT surely made up for it :)

That Lego Castle thing came to our Children's Museum and I have to wonder if we had a different set up or something because ours was awesome! There was a giant lego dragon and all kinds of castle themed things and giant foam legos for little guys and a couple of big lego tables set up for kids to build on and lots of cool stuff. My daughter was a bit young for it, my son loved the foam legos, and my husband loved the entire exhibit. That was... a year ago.

Some days it seems our expectations are just too big for reality.
I need to know what Checkered was carrying in his pockets? I hope it was not yellow snow!
