Precious and Loved

We've been on an interesting journey with our youngest boy for a while now trying to get an appropriate diagnosis. He is smart and fun and an enthusiastic reader and the sweetest second grader you might ever meet. He also has some symptoms which may be categorized as Asperger's. But because he doesn't exhibit all Asperger's symptoms, we have no official diagnosis yet. Five doctors and lots and lots of insurance monies and out of pocket expenses later, we have a treatment plan which is starting to work. Some school personnel have been quick to say that things are fine now and we'll have no more worries. But we see him in other settings and know we have a long way to go.

The other day, this boy who doesn't always recognize and articulate his emotions and who struggles in some other areas, was singing the chorus of "How Great is Our God." He has his mom's inability to get all the lyrics right, but his pure heart made the day absolutely beautiful.

How great is our God,
sing with me
How great is our God,
and all will see
How great
How great is our God

Now I'll be singing the chorus all day :)

What a sweet boy. My husband's cousin has a son (1st grade, I think) who apparently has Asperger's. He is bright, sweet, and unwittingly witty. If you'd like to chat with her, just holler (she's on Facebook, and I have her email address). She'd be more than happy to share and/or compare notes.

How great is our God, indeed :)

What a handsome boy!

I find it so amazing (and not in a good way) how quick schools are to label and then snap their fingers and pronounce ALL BETTER!

The only judge of all better are you his parents and his doctors.

My nephew has Aspergers, so I know what you go through. It's a tough road sometimes, but with God in his heart he will be just fine.

Oh, and--I have heard rumors that the cruise industry is really going to be hurting this year because of the deteriorating economy and there may be some very deep discounts offered on cruises to Alaska.

Get yourself onto one of those babies and make sure it stops in Sitka. There will be a freshly made Jelly Roll Banana Split Cake with your name on it waiting in port. :-)

I don't know why, but that just made me tear up. I guess they are happy tears for your sweet boy!
He's handsome!

How blessed is he to be born into a family of caring people who will stop at nothing to make his life wonderful. (run on run on) I can't imagine what it takes to get 'everyone' on board when you have some special needs...I hope and pray that you get it fgured out and everyone is happy about it.
I forget verses and lyrics all the time. When that happens we just say: "remix"

it is nice that a treatment plan/strategy is in place and the teachers see some improvement; its good too that at least they realize there is something that needs to be remedied, sometimes that is half the battle convincing them something is going on

so sweet with his singing! awesome song (and God) too!!

When you sing His praises, He will rejoice. Your son is not only handsome, he's special.

We are in a similar situation with our youngest son.
He sounds very sweet.

Why didn't I realize you were going through this?
We suspect our third son has Asperger's. He hasn't been evaluated since he was a baby-- and even then the testing procedure was lame beyond belief. He ticks most of the boxes, but is functioning well, but we do have to parent him differently than the others. He's also our sweetest and has amazing math skillz.
You should post more on your treatment plan! :-)
