Spammer Beware

One of the joys I find in blogging is hearing what other people have to say. Getting a comment is a little like Christmas morning for me. It's a small, wrapped surprise just waiting for me alone. Some of you are so loyal that I am humbled. I rarely make it through my reading list these days and when I do, my reading is hit or miss. I've become a lurker: seeing what you have to say but never stopping to comment. Yet you come here day after day and take the time to talk. Those comments mean the world to me.

But then those those stinkin' spammers found me. Those are a little like a Christmas present that holds such promise -- someone thought of me, someone took the time to get me something -- until it's opened and you see that it's a pair of dirty, stinky socks.

I'm tired of being told I can earn money if I contact the reader, that the reader thinks my blog has improved OR that they supposedly can read my blog in English but can only respond in another language.

So, comment moderation is on now and I finally get why so many of you moderate, too.
I would prefer that comment moderation work a little more like a loud whistle in the spammer's ear, but short of adding a word verification, it will have to do.

Stupid spammers!

Mine is really good at catching spam and I used to sift through the spam to make sure no real comments had been filtered, but then my spam folder exploded and I'm askeered to go in there anymore.

I know the feeling - your inbox is full of comments and you think that finally the Blogs of Note editors have found you. Only to discover it's some machine in Korea on a mission to spread like a plague the web address of some kid selling dodgy spyware. I don't mind comment moderation, although I think you're right not going the whole letter recognition hog! Happy Christmas!

AMEN! I HATE spam!

Well, I'm sorry about the spammer - he/she sure is making the rounds! I've heard this same kind of comment a lot lately.

I'm pro word verification and never more so that because of what I'm reading on so many friends sites. I guess someone who is remaining anonymous is going onto random sites and leaving nasty, mean comments (and I've seen a few and WOW! are they nasty). So, word verification (and not allowing anonymous) - my weapons of choice.

I have been getting a lot of spam too. I am trying word verification first.
I do agree that comments are like a little Christmas present :) So, Merry Christmas!

As long as you don't close up shop, we'll be fine with whatever you do :)

I can think of better ways to spend my time...like letting people whose blogs I read know that I appreciate them!
Sorry about the spam hits, I haven't gotten any yet, and yours is the first I have heard of.
Hopefully, you can keep those spammers out!

That is exactly why I have the comment moderation. First time I got one of these, I thought "cool, my blog is so international that someone is commenting in Mandarin Chinese!" LOL, I have since learned it is junk!! Not as cool as I originally thought!

I hate spam. Though I hate word verification even more. I mess up on those words so often!

I get one every so often but it's usually on an older post. I just delete it since I don't think they actually targeted me specifically. They are a pain in the butt and I never open them.

I´ve seen more and more spam these days. Too bad, I hate it when they spoil the fun!
They haven´t found me yet, but know who´s for how long....

Yep, the LOUD whistle in the ear, I'm all for that.

Just like the idiot that called me again this morning from New York about life insurance. I wish I could spray purple paint through the phone line when they call EVERY SINGLE DAY. What, am I going to buy from them because they are so persistent? Gnats are persistent too, but all I try to do is squish them.

I had one the other day. I get so excited for comments and then getting that one is a huge let down. DELETE!

It's awful when they get multiple posts-- it took me two hours once to delete all of them. Oh, wait-- the WORST is when some sweet blogger has opened her soul to the world about a death or some other tragedy and that post gets spammed. I saws it two days ago and it made me feel slightly protective bulldog-ish.

Had somebody leaving nasty stuff in another language. Speedy caught it and let me know.
