My Futile Facebook Journey

My SIL should get some sort of commission from Facebook. She loves it and thinks I should love it, too. She talks of being able to follow her college-daughter's life via Facebook. She talks of reconnecting with her college friends. She talks of finding friends from waaaay back. She talks of the ease of chatting with all these people without having to call or text.

So I sign up. How cool to see my nieces' and nephew's pages . How cool to "spy" on them.

Then I try to connect with high school friends and I find only one, and I don't really want to reconnect with him.

Then I try to connect with college friends only to find that none of them have listed themselves under their maiden names. Hellooo! People I want to find?? I lost contact with you by the time you got married. Please remember that you had a life prior to marriage, and a name, too. I can't find you if I don't know your name.

And then there's the little issue of my mis-speaking the name of Facebook.  So what if it came out, "My Face"?  Unfortunately, my audience for the mis-speak consisted of Checkered and my teen-ager.

*sigh*

lol, my friends all are telling me to facebook too and I have it and lots of people added I just don't think I have time to blog, and read the blogs I follow and do facebook, I would never get anything else done!!! and I don't even understand Twitter... that is a whole other story... makes me feel old.

oh and facebook won't let me add my maiden name, it says it is too long with my married last name... so that is annoying..

Ha, sounds like my sister! She got me on Facebook, my face whatever it is called. She loves it. I only go on once every day or so to see if anyone wrote to me. I haven't been good about writing on old friend's "walls" because I just don't have the time! I like blogging better. I think it will come in handy when my kids have sites so I can "spy" on them, though!

You are so right! I have facebook too and can´t find any old school friends. And the friends that I have now, think facebook is only for "young" people,so they don´t join. What´s the point then? For me it´s partly to spy on my girls, since they live so far away and they are not great email writers....
Thanks for visiting my blog today and for your kind comment!
I am high on "commentlove" today....

I had a facebook page for almost two years...I got rid of it finally last week...it is okay if you want to spy on your kiddos but other then that it is BORING...I think it actually took brain cells away from me and I need to keep all the ones I have soooo...goodbye to facebook.

I still have my Myspace, but hardly ever get on it anymore because I am always here with people I really care about.

That is so funny about the "my face"...

I like that facebook USED to be easier than, say, Myspace. But now it's adding so many new things I can't keep up. I am confused so I spend 2 minutes on Facebook a week where I poke people back and deny friend requests... because I'm a snob like that. Heh.
