As we watched the news the other night, I was horrified by a story. A mother who suffers a long history of serious mental illness was being charged with torturing her children. Not just abuse, but torture. The husband/father was interviewed. He was obviously brokenhearted at losing his children and tried to explain that when his wife was on her meds, she was a loving, wonderful mother. "She's so sick," he sobbed, "And now I've lost my children, too."
I issued some invective against the husband/father for his blind love of his wife.
My husband turned to me and quietly asked, "Would you want me to stop loving you just because you got sick?"
I was rendered speechless at the depth of Checkered's compassion and love.

Have you seen the show "United States of Tara"? It is about a mother with multiple personalities. Her husband loves her unconditionally, but her kids have a hard time with some of her personas...Checkered is awesome, and I bet he would do what is right for your kids as well.

We all have our imperfections. Some are more visual than others. I am so grateful for my Cdub and his unconditional love for me. I think a lot of folks could learn something from Checkered. He makes a good point. You're as lucky as me!

Awww, well said Checkered! You've got quite a catch there! Isn't it is nice to know you are loved unconditionally? The Salesman is much like that. I am lucky to have him.

It's a moving story. I don't know what I can add to what has already been said, except that I feel for all of the members of that family, and I don't really know whose is the greater tragedy - the tortured children who will be scarred for life, the husband whose family has fallen apart or the wife whose illness is not of her own making. I'm glad your husband is so sensitive. I hope mine would be in the same position.

I really love my wife. I do. I would do anything foir her. But if she had tortured my kids I would clearly have done something to stop it.

Checkered sounds like an awesome all around man--you truly are blessed with a real life valentine!
Having said that I am certain he is also sensible enough that he would have put a barrier between you and the kids he also loves if he knew you would/may harm them.
Sometimes I have to remove myself from the news for awhile. It gets me so far down I have a hard time getting back up.
