My Very Own American Teen-Ager

My daughter participated in a drama competition last week-end. She and her drama partner did well. In fact, they received a perfect score. Excited for her, I began to talk about the next step of the competition which will take place in Chicago. How exciting to be on the cusp of 15, to be able to do something she enjoys, and to get to do it in Chicago with her best friend!

"Are you kidding?" she asked. "I was bored out of my mind at the first competition."

I was dumbfounded. "But there were hundreds of other high school students there! Your BFF was there! You got to be on a college campus and now you get to go to Chicago!"

"No way am I going, " she countered. "I got almost no phone reception all day and then my phone died so I couldn't even surf the Internet or talk to my friends at home."

You can be certain that when I think of a good response, I'm going to text it to her.

She is a hoot. Please, whatever you do, don't bore her to death. Ok? that would be tragic.

Ha! In related news, I just stepped into the 2000's and bought a Blackberry.

We'll see how it goes. I may never be bored again.

I love that commercial where the kid texted someone at the dinner table to pass him the ketchup.

Blackberrys....I hate mine by day (work) and love mine by night (play).

My daughter's cell phone went on the fritz about a week ago. You would have thought the world was coming to an end. She immediately hijacked MY phone to let all of her friends know, and proceeded to use my phone for the next three days!!! No. She's definitely not addicted...:/

Teenagers and cell phones. They must be made for each other?

This is a side note - but I just read your comment on the sits site. I agree with you 100%. The title of the article could have been better - but I don't think it was a negative article.

PRICELESS! So perfectly priceless. And brought back great memories of taking my daughter to drama competitions as well. Just knew she was going to major in theatre. She said "no way. I'm so over drama!" Really?

LOL. That's classic.

I'm visiting you because you were with me in the minority over at SITS today...glad to know I wasn't the only one who couldn't tell what the big deal was!

Just like a kid. Sounds normal to me.

Fortunately my two oldest children came up before the advent of text-nology. But unfortunately, my youngest did and she would need major surgery to have her cell phone separated from her hands. They live and breathe with their cell phones. Gotta love their priorities.
