Where's Nancy Drew When I Need Her?

We've had a mysterious couple walking through our neighborhood for the past few months. They walk every evening just after dark and every morning just at sun-up. He always wears the same white shorts and no shirt and she always wears the same clothing, too.

They walk slowly and affectionately. And if a car's headlights illuminate them, they immediately move into a tight embrace with his back to the road. They remain in that embrace until the lights are no longer on them. Yet when their activity activates my motion sensing front porch light, they linger in that spotlight - again in the embrace.

When there are no headlights or front porch lights to find them, they have specific stopping points where they always pause for a lengthy embrace and kiss. One is on our corner and another is behind a van across the street.

And if that isn't enough, my neighbor came across them one early morning. The man stood on the sidewalk watching while the woman frolicked in someone's lawn sprinklers.

So we are left wondering are they exhibitionists? Are they casing houses? Are they homeless?

The only thing I really know for certain is that it's pretty good entertainment. I'm pathetic, I know.

That is a good mystery! I hope you keep us posted on this story and no, you are never lame. I hope you have a good weekend.

Strange. Maybe they're just a particularly affectionate married couple.

I'm not sure I'd use "good" and "boiled peanuts" in the same sentence! Though people who grew up with them really like them.

While being interesting and a little mysteriously funny I actually find it rather creepy. I'd be wondering what they we up to ;) But i'm kind of suspicious that way.

Keep an eye on that couple....they sound creepy! Consistent public canoodling and sprinkler folly are reasons for concern...bahahahaha! How odd!

That is freaky! I mean freaky! I love your pumpkin avatar...

The thing that struck me as weird was that the guy does not wear a shirt?! WTF?
The whole thing sounds a little freaky to me. Keep an eye on them and keep us nosy bloggers posted!

Half naked people and sprinklers... sounds to me like maybe they are trying to shower in your neighborhood. Dirty crooks I tell ya. Probably laundering money would be my guess. Or they could be nudists who are kind of shy. Hey... don't you have an attack dog now? Use it! Oh wait... don't sacrifice the dog. Hmmmm, McGruff is a dog and he fights neighborhood crime, if only we knew if there WAS a CRIME... I so want to come up there and solve this. But I have an personal aversion to half naked strangers. So, you're on your own my friend.
In all seriousness, keep a close eye out though, on the kids. I don't trust ANYONE I don't know hangin in my neighborhood! Paranoid or not, tis better to be than sorry.

Are you serious? This couple sounds very unusual. Good luck with the mystery.

Did you read Nancy Drew as a kid? Oh, goodness, my friends and I did. We had a blast trading books back and forth. Sometimes I could hardly wait until it was my turn to read the next book!

Hmmm... or maybe they're both married to someone else in the neighborhood and they're sneaking out for their scandalous affair walks around the neighborhood. (visiting from BATW)

WEIRD! FREAKY! Why have you not taken a picture?

very strange. At first I thought maybe he had a condition where the bright lights were a problem, but just stopping to embrace or dance in sprinklers is very weird. I live on a street that is very popular w/ walkers and there are all sorts of weirdos!
visiting via BATW.

Maybe they are both going through a mid-life crisis together.

You should set out a snack for them at one of their stops (behind the van or on the corner?) and a note thanking them for entertaining the neighborhood.

Then see what happens.

(btw, I'm visiting from BATW!)

Kia Ora from New Zealand! I'm visiting via BATW. This sounds like the perfect beginning of a good short story plot - are your regular reader's a literary lot? It would be fun to see who could come up with the best 500 word story based on this mysterious couple! If that couple were on my street I don't think I could stop myself from coming up with all sorts of scenarios and partaking in a fair bit of 'curtain twitching'! Tee hee!

Best wishes from New Zealand, Sarah

This is a fascinating story. And, I just finished a fiction writing class last semester, so Sarah's comment intrigues me. This WOULD make a good plot for a story. I think I'll give it a shot!

That sounds like a Seinfeld episode. I can just hear Jerry and Elaine trying to figure them out. ha!

I'm stopping over from BATW. I enjoyed your introduction. Very creative!

Totally not pathetic. I love people watching. And trying to figure out what they're doing and why. And this couple certainly makes you wonder!

I think I might need to go walking every morning, too - what a trip!

My first thought matches journeytofamily. If that assumption is right then it would make me very sad.
I have enjoyed reading your blog, I have to thank Debbie for sending us to visit.

Creepy! I'm so nosey I would probably just walk right out and greet them one evening. :)

Hmmm, who could they be? We have some neighbors that have interesting past times and ways of showing their affection. Lets just say, it is not PG and I will not even let my thoughts go there to write them.
Here from BATW, a little late but finally here.
