The drive from El Paso to Dallas was very interesting ... for one hour (and that's being generous.) Lots of cactus. Ample dirt. And enough sun to recharge any vitamin D deficiency I may have for the next decade. After that first hour, I went into a type of passenger-trance so the next 9 hours are a blur.
We are now in very urbane Dallas with Checkered's sister and are enjoying our reunion time with her family. Yesterday we went to the historic part of Fort Worth so Checkered could look Western and fit in a little better than his new look would fit-in in Dallas or any other part of Texas.
Amazingly, the bank temp displays showed 119 yesterday. But somehow in that heat, our kids walked through a maze at Fort Worth. Now to end on a little braggadocio: my boys finished in 13 minutes. Their sister and cousins (including a nurse and an engineer) finished in 30 minutes.
Now to plot our path back to Detroit. That is, if I can bear the sorrow of leaving Texas.

You can bear it. Cool and blue here. Travel safe. :)
I can not wait to hear about all the stories!!! Checkered looks like he fits right in!!!
Spent a year in Texas.
When i left Portland (Maine) the temperature at the airport was 76. Just about perfect for Maine.
When I landed in Dallas at 9 p.m., it was 89 degrees.
And I don't think it ever went below that the entire year I was there.
Those are my kind of tempertures! I LUV the heat! And Checkered looks mighty spiffy! :)
O.K. that's WAY TOO HOT. We are at 68 and it feels like we are frying sometimes.
I went to Dallas Fort Worth once and the traffic we encountered about did me in. Other than that I sure enjoyed the horse ranches!
That's hot! Very hot...
I heart Texas!!!!
Safe travels!
My old stomping ground... you should have taken a pic of the 119 on the bank sign because people who have never been in Texas may not believe you! :o)
I have really enjoyed your vacation notes. It almost feels like I tagged along - without the 10 hour drive you mention!
I'm glad you survived our heat and lived to tell the tale. This weekend was especially brutal.
The question should be...why is Checkered wearing a STRIPED shirt?? Seriously, he looks right at home in the Western style. Like he's about to step onto the dance floor for some Texas Swing.
Wow....119 degrees! I hope its a dry heat....am presuming it is, but still that's mighty hot! Will the Flag Family have trouble reacclimating to the cool North? Thoughts and prayers for continued safe travels!
Holy cow! Everyone is HAWT!
Can I selfishly say I am glad you are beginning the journey home?
Never mind...I just did.
119???? Yeeee-haw!
