FF: Yes, I Do Write My Own Blog Posts

Fragmented thoughts is the theme of my week.  My students just took a grammar quiz on run-on and fragmented sentences and did sufficiently well.  Then they turned in their next essays - which were full of run-on and fragmented sentences.  Maybe the people they pay to write their essays should have taken the grammar quiz.

On Sunday I lost my glasses and squinted through a few events for the next few days, but then Checkered pointed out that my glasses weren't lost.  They were only taking a little vacation in his truck.  And they're still there.  I do wish they would at least send a postcard or something.

Have you sent or received a postcard in the last year?  I haven't.  Although I do buy them while on vacation,
I never send them.  Nor do I scrapbook.  So why buy them?

I sent my 13 year old out to ride his bike the one mile to school yesterday, but there was a steady downpour so I drove him instead. But then I began to think about Kelli Norgaard's posts about her Danish counterparts riding bikes in all kinds of weather and I felt like a wimp.

Then we saw my son's classmate - cold, wet, and miserable - with another 1/2 mile to walk.  I mumbled that we should stop and give the boy a ride, but immediately changed my mind because he doesn't know me nor do his parents. I felt angry at a legal system that made me second-guess my Good Samaritanism.

Then my son, in a little display of panic, told me we couldn't offer the ride because the boy is popular and my son is not.  That made me even more frustrated at a lot of people including my own son.

So I went to McDonald's to vent my frustrations at a Mocha Frappe' but asked for no whip and no drizzle.     Just so you know, skinny Checkered, it helped tremendously.

However, it didn't even take the edge of the fact that I teach English and my child currently has a D in the same subject or the fact that another child of mine read 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea with me (a very difficult read) and then failed a test on said book.

And now a completely unrelated question: how close are you currently to closing your blog?  I am teetering in favor of other social networking options (yes, I still love Facebook) and writing projects.

Finally!!!! Have any of you Texas residents encountered trouble with the wild horses and cows I've heard about on the news? I am serious.

I have frowny face over your frustrated Good Samaritan story. There's something seriously wrong with a community that cripples its best impulses in that way - where did we go wrong? I don't think it's quite as bad here in Australia yet but it's definitely there and getting worse :-(

My blog has suffered from the incursions of Twitter, but I've no intention of giving up on it all together any time soon, 140 characters can only go so far!

no i will not close my blog it is my outlet and it is where i have all of you people i live vicariously though... if you close your blog you will be murdering a bit of me!!! now do you really want to be responsible for that??? as for picking up kids...
I used to pickup as many as the van would hold... have had as many as 13 at on time... BACK when my kids were young... and seatbelt laws wernt as strict for a short ride to school... today... the circumstances would have to be pretty bad like HARD rain versus shower type... snow.. or if my kid asked me to give another a ride... Depends on the kid and how old they are... I did refuse one 14 yr old a ride when MJ asked but she did not realise i know of the kids mom and sorry ... walk it kid.
asfor hes popular... tell your child that I SAID not to worry the popular kids are just faces in a croud when you grow up and the not so popular are the ones who stick around and are a part of your life when you are grown up. and i was a LONER i got along ok with people but did nto really hang out or run with many like my kids have when the are in school... and yes mam I am QUEEN of run on sentances and typos and and and but thank God I am not in school... I barely graduated as it was. :) KEEP the BLOG caution even if you dont post often KEEP IT.

Yep - let some of the popular boy's friends pick him up! ;) I feel your school frustrations. English seems to be my kids' hardest class. And they don't want MY help. What do I know???
Good thing its the weekend so you can put that all behind you with another luscious frappe.

That's funny. You teach English and he has a D in it. But hey, everyone has their strengths and weaknesses. I was great at writing and spelling, but couldn't add 2 plus 2.

As for the kid in the rain? he gets a ride. Period. To hell with political correctness and social expectations. Or at least I stop and offer the ride. If the kid declines, or says his parents won't allow it, fine. Then your conscience is off the hook.

Glasses? Don't tell anyone, but I've already looked and looked for them, only to have someone tell me their on top of my head!!

I love your blog and don't want you to close it down, but I understand the thought.

Mean people are not nice and I hate that your son had to feel like that. It isn't right.

Riding in the cold rain is no fun! Then you stay damp and chilled for a long time. Good call to drive him!!

If my blog becomes more work than pleasure, then I might shut it down. But I can't really see that happening as it is more of a journal for me - a place to vent, a place to record memories, etc.

it is hard these days to know what is the best thing to do in offering a ride to a child on a rainy day. As a parent, I would think if my child knew the kid went to their school, I would probably have stopped and offered a ride, except then of course you had to take into consideration your son's feelings about it all. I'm sure it was a dilemma, but McDonald's coffees are always good to try to sort things out (you got the talk down right on how to order them too, LOL :)

I would miss your blog if you closed it down. Depending on seasons in my life, LOL, I've been known to delete or suspend blogs but I always come back. Sometimes it gets into our blood, I think. I don't do Facebook or Twitter and I enjoy the socialization, albeit virtual, that blogs give.

enjoy the weekend

This was a really fun post until I hit that "closing blog" bit... you wouldn't, would you? I say that as my blog grows cobwebs...

I would really miss reading over here, even if I have become a little lurker-ish :-(

Wild horses and cows?!? After scorpions, rats, hornets, armadillos, squirrels, rabbits and more?

I am teeter tottering about blogging yes, I don't want to stop yet but somehow need to really cut back so that I have time for life.

Please, Please Please don't close your blog! I just found your blog Sunday night and I really look forward to reading it each day. I never update my blog though it's probably because I always end up having run on sentences. Is it possible to have slept through all the grammer lessons from 4-8th grade?

I'm new to blogging, relatively speaking, and I'm reading about people who are thinking of quitting. Or some are saying that blogging is changing from what it used to be.

I'm enjoying all the interesting people I can read about, and how they are facing and solving the same stuff we all face. I hope all the best, funniest, wisest ones don't fold their tents and fade away.

Hate it when glasses get lost and don't even send a postcard. My keys are probably in your husband's truck...

Closing my blog in favour of other social media? Well, I love FB but it's not a good enough replacement for a blog...

I have my blog so one day my son will have something to look back on and to share with his grandchildren that his mother was really a nut but she loved him very much along with all the wonderful people she met in blogging. Sometimes I get slack in posting but then I get slack at other things.
We all do what we must. If you go...I'm sure gonna miss you!
