Color Me Cheaper

I've tried to stretch it out, but my roots are obvious and my hair is begging for some attention. I've tried to ignore them. I've refused to look in the mirror or, when forced to look in the mirror, refused to turn the light on. The roots don't look so bad in the dark.

But now money is getting tight and we are trying to prepare for the very real possibility that money will become a rare sight next month when Checkered's employer plans to release 25% of its salaried workforce.

In response to that, coupled with Christmas, a child's birthday, and no Caution-income between semesters, we are flirting with a bit of frugality. Okay, maybe not frugality yet, but you know what I mean.

So back to the root of the post (ha!) Maybe it's time that I do some self-coloring.
BUT I DON'T KNOW HOW TO DO IT!!
Nor am I one bit artistic. What I do know is that I don't want to look like some other people who have that uniformly, unnaturally colored hair.
Help, please?
How do I move away from the professionals without looking like that's exactly what I've done??

That's a tough one, but I have done it before. I don't have a reccomendation on brand for you, though. Hopefully someone else does. If all else fails, I have a nice Hannah Montana wig for you!

I wish I could help...but I also need a hair cut and haven't had one in over 7 months... and I am going to before Zach gets back... I am saving now for a bit of color too... we will see. I wish I could help, sorry!

Go to a beauty school. They will do it for practically nothing. And it will still look great. I wish I knew how to do my own, too. The thought of going to my natural color makes me physically ill.

with my head full of gray and no moneys to spend on hair coloring i am left to do it myself and it is generally a roll of the dice... but mental has a good idea I think I may do that route when the gray really gets to me!

I managed to highlight my own hair this summer and it actually looked good. If I can, TRUST ME, you can.

Can you try a different way, like a beauty school?

I can totally relate; my appt with my "stylist" is next week, and I'm afraid it will be my last for a long time (she's not cheap!) How about if we make a deal? I'll do yours, and you can do mine!? JK
