The Happiness Project: Teachers I Love

Photobucket

My daughter is finishing her first year of high school and has found her home in choir.  With a marvelous director, the freshmen choir has learned music theory and history, they've learned to sing more maturely, they've learned stage presence, and they've learned how wonderful it feels to belong to something of worth.

Doesn't it say quite a lot when no one intends to drop out next year?

For more happiness, go here.

Did you know that schools with strong music programs have higher graduation rates, better math scores and better attendance? Yeah for your daughter and yeah for a great music teacher!

that is saying something! I wanted to quit band after my freshman year, because it was so much work and I was totally over scheduled, but I am so glad that I stayed in it!

Some teachers are like diamonds. Not too many out there but when you find one its nice to celebrate it! Thanks for sharing. I'm a new follower!

A choir is a wonderful no-sporty way in which to really understand team play and how all the disparate parts i.e. your fellow choir members, can sound wonderful on their own but so much more amazing when together in unison. Glad your daughter is enjoying it - fabulous picture. I hope the two of you are doing better today!

Just looking at that picture brought back a flood of memories. I was SO INVOLVED in choir in high school. I LOVED IT. I was in girls glee, concert choir, and then the "elite" choir my senior year which was called Swing Choir. I was also thoroughly immersed in the drama department. Both departments were in the same building and it felt like I lived there in high school. I think loving the arts made me want to do better in my other classes. I graduated high school with 4.0 GPA. Now I am feeling all nostalgic...

Both of my girls were in homeschool choir for years. I loved that the director took the opportunity to teach the kids about behavior as well as singing. She actually had a talk with them (boys and girls separately) at the beginning of the year about proper modest dress that doesn't distract the other kids from concentrating on singing--I loved it!

I'm so happy for your daughter. Wish I could say the same for mine :( Found out she didn't make it into Concert Choir for next year--it makes no sense. Wish I could fix it for her. I guess it will build character (not getting in), but still...I'm sad for her.
